Wynnetta Scott-Simmons

Wynnetta Scott-Simmons is an Assistant Professor of Graduate Education at Mercer University’s Tift College of Education where she teaches literacy, cultural pedagogy, and curriculum courses to pre-service and in-service graduate students. Prior to her tenure with Mercer, she taught and served as a literacy coach at the K-5 level. Her research interests focus on the use of collected oral histories and personal narratives to develop culturally relevant and signature pedagogical practices; the valuation and incorporation of culturally divergent and community-positioned literacies into the school curriculum, the role of African American female educators as conveyers of cultural funds of knowledge; and the myriad of ways that silence is used as a tool of marginalization, progression, and liberation in educational settings.
