Author Biographies

Therese Quinn, University of Illinois at Chicago

Therese Quinn is the Director of the Museum and Exhibition Studies Program at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She writes about the arts and cultural institutions as sites for democratic engagement and justice work; contributes a column to Yliopisto, for the University of Helsinki; and is a founding member of Chicagoland Researchers and Advocates for Transformative Education (CReATE, create.blogspot.com). Her most recent books are Art and Social Justice Education: Culture as Commons (2012, Routledge) and Sexualities in Education: A Reader (2012, Peter Lang).

 

Erica R. Meiners

Erica R. Meiners participates with campaigns linked to educational justice, anti-prison movements, and queer liberation struggles, is the author of Flaunt It! Queers Organizing for Public Education and Justice (2009) and articles in AREA Chicago, Meridians, and No More Potlucks. She is a member of her labor union, and actively involved in many popular education projects including an alternative high school for men and women exiting prisons and jails, and at Stateville Prison. Erica is an avid science fiction fan.
